Your Name: Terry Mialkowsky
Where are you from? Born in Saskatoon, lived all over Western Canada, currently residing in Regina.
The name of your film in the festival: Belt Buckle / Quonset Hut
What was your inspiration for this film?: Frequently, I would drive past an abandoned, rusting quonset hut on the outskirts of Regina that was stubbornly refusing to fall down. It seemed to quietly evoke the determined spirit of the province. I’ve always had a love/hate relationship to my home province (hate the cold/love the landscape), but I have always had a deep respect for the fiercely independent people that live there.
Why did you choose to submit to the DCISFF?: Actually, my distributor (Winnipeg Film Group) did it for me. I’m sure they submitted to DCISFF because it is has a reputation as a killer festival that rocks long and hard.
