The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture and the Dawson City Music Festival are proud to present the undisputed Calypso queen, Calypso Rose, live in concert. Tobago-born McArtha Linda Sandy-Lewis (aka Calypso Rose) is a legend who, in her career spanning over 5 decades, has received more honours and medals than any other living Calypsonian and built an exhaustive musical catalogue that runs the gamut from social and political commentary to party music, inspirational hymns and gospel music, and of course, a myriad of calypso hits. As a performer, she has shared stages with, among others, Bob Marley, Tito Puente, Roberta Flack, Mahalia, and Michael Jackson.
On January 14th Calypso Rose and her band will be heating up the KIAC ballroom for an evening of food, music, drinks and dancing and, a bit of tropical escapism for us northerners not seeking warmer climes. Get out your beach-wear, get your vacation photos taken at our island photo-booth and meet the reigning Queen of Calypso.
To warm up for this amazing concert, we will screen the film Calypso Rose: Lioness of the Jungle at the Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre on Friday, January 11th at 7:00. Admission is $5 at the door
